This experimental short film is an adaptation of Dictee by Theresa Hak Kyung Cha, which explores the space of dispossession and translation between the East Asian-Canadian experience of East Asian cultures, lived reality, and family histories. The short explores the East Asian diaspora by combining Cha’s text with Samuel Beckett’s “Not I.” By jarringly juxtaposing mouth to speech, this piece creates a feeling of dispossession between English and French language through disorienting the synchronicity of Cha’s words and the performers' vocalizations.
